We look back on a successful International Congress on Cartilage Repair of the Ankle (ICCRA) which was held in Dublin last week in which many ESKKA-AFAS members where actively involved.
The International Society on Cartilage Repair of the Ankle was founded to facilitate a basis for
exchanging ideas and fostering collaboration among leaders in the field on the diagnosis,
treatment and rehabilitaon of cartilage injuries of the ankle. In fact, the first annual gathering
of the society was organized in Dublin, Ireland in 2012 and we were pleased to announce that
Dublin and RCSI was selected to host the meeting as it returns to Ireland for a second time in
2019. ISCRA maintains a longstanding collaboration with the ESSKA Ankle and Foot Associates
(AFAS).
The International Congress on Cartilage Repair of the Ankle (ICCRA) represents a
multidisciplinary gathering of foot and ankle surgeons, physical therapists, radiologists, and
basic scientists to discuss and share their expertise on cartilage repair of the ankle and
advancing care in an injury that is notoriously difficult to treat.
The previous meeting in Pitsburgh in 2017 resulted in 11 publications from the consensus
statements in the first-ever Foot and Ankle International Supplemental issue, released in July
2018. This meeting included several further topics for consensus debate – Terminology &
ClassificaWon, Paediatric Osteochondral Lesions, Tibial Lesions, Ankle Instability with
Osteochondral Lesions, and Early Ankle Osteoarthritis.
